California Military Museum

Though near the state capitol and the California State Railroad Museum, the California Military Museum just may be overlooked by the casual traveler. But that would mean missing out on a veritable treasure trove of artifacts from wars and skirmishes throughout California's history. Established not to glorify war but to honor the sacrifices of generations, the California Military Museum approaches military history from many angles. Visitors will find exhibits detailing the inclusion of women, African-Americans, Asian-Americans, and Native Americans in the military, as well as displays of swords and long arms. Each episode of war in the nation's history is represented, offering a comprehensive look at how the military has shaped the freedom of the nation.
