If you drive a little farther down the road you can enjoy the wineries of El Dorado County. Amador County is a wonderful place to visit for a close-up look into California's historic gold era in the towns: Fiddletown, Plymouth, Dry Town, Amador City, Sutter Creek and Jackson. You can even visit a working gold mine and go for a below-ground tour in Sutter Creek.
