Hoo Koo E Koo

Hoo Koo E Koo trail is a classic California mountain bike trail. Located close to Mt. Tamalpais (Mt. Tam) in legendary Marin County, Hoo Koo E Koo features steep climbs and rocky descents.

Hoo Koo E Koo trail gathers its unusual name from the Native Americans that once called this area home. Hoo Koo E Koo passes Phoenix Lake and traverses through forests of oak and meadows that are filled with wildflowers during the spring as it climbs and descends the hilly topography of Marin County. At times, Hoo Koo E Koo follows exposed ridges, adding to the thrill.

Riders looking for a less committing ride can take a shortcut trail off Hoo Koo E Koo, which rides past Lake Lagunitas and Phoenix Lake.

Hoo Koo E Koo trail is multi-use and riders should understand and practice appropriate right of way protocol. Riders should also carry a first aid kit, bike repair kit and extra water and food. A map is an important tool when riding Hoo Koo E Koo trail since there are a multitude of trails and roadways in the area.





 Directions to Trailhead

To get to the trailhead: From San Francisco, take Highway 101 North from Golden Gate. Exit at the Blithedale-Tiburon Boulevard Exit. Take a left onto East Blithedale and follow to Mill Valley. Park at the Mill Valley common and bike from here. Follow West Blithedale to the park gate at its end. Take old railroad grade up four miles to Hoo Koo E Koo trail on the right.

To get to the shuttle car location: From San Francisco, take Highway 101 north to the San Anselmo/Sir Francis Drake Exit. Take a left and follow Sir Francis Drake west to the town of Ross. Turn left onto Lagunitas Road and park at park at end of roadway.
