The trail follows an old gated road down to the South Fork of the Smith River where you'll find a beautiful little campsite. The trail crosses the river and then climbs steeply through old growth forests and ends at picturesque Island Lake.

Note: Trailhead access is limited by gate closures during the wet season, generally mid-October through mid-June.

Basic Directions

From milepost 24.85 on Hwy 199 (10 miles east of Gasquet), turn onto Little Jones Creek Road (FS 17N05/Jawbone Road) and drive 10 miles to 16N02. Turn left onto 16N02 and travel 2.7 miles to the trailhead on the right. There is a large parking area on the right - please keep the road clear for emergency vehicles.
