Modesto is a worthy stop even just for the sake of its green fields and state parks, but the town itself has some interesting attractions. Discover Modesto's history at the McHenry Mansion and Museum or spend a summer evening at the ballgame. Modesto is the boyhood home of George Lucas and the inspiration for the town in American Graffiti, so you might see some familiar sites from the movie. Head fifteen miles northeast to Oakdale for the Cowboy Museum or to sample chocolate at the Hershey's Chocolate Visitor Center.
