Dunes are far from unusual off-roading sites, but the sand dunes along the ocean are not twinned to sand dunes in the desert. The Oceano Dunes are unique, the largest coastal dunes in California. They are purely natural structures, the result of centuries of deposits left by the currents of the ocean, shaped by centuries of wind.
While you ride these dunes, watch for wildlife and wildflowers. Owl and pelicans soar in the sky and plovers walk in the shallows. You can even park your off-road vehicle and search for Pismo clams during dusk and dawn hours.
