Redwood National Park - Scenic Drives

Whichever route you take around Redwood National Park and the nearby state parks it's a certainty that you'll be treated to the sight of stately old trees and dramatic coastal vistas, with the occasional sea lion or meandering elk herd thrown in for good measure. The famous "drive-through" trees aren't in any of the public parks, but can be easily accessed from Highway 101 (there are three of them) for a fee.
For river scenery, take the Smith River Scenic Byway, a route that winds through more redwoods, alongside the middle fork of a pretty waterway.

Cal-Barrel Road 3 miles 30 minutes

Coastal Drive 8 miles 1-2 hours

Davison Road 8 miles 30 minutes

Enderts Beach Road 5 minutes

Howland Hill Road 6 miles 45 minutes

Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway 10 miles 15-30 minutes one-way

Pacific Coast Highway - California's Route 1 At least two days for a quick trip, but many days or even weeks could be spent exploring the length of this byway.

Requa Road 4 miles 15 minutes

Route 101--Redwood Highway 12 miles (19 km) 30 minutes

Smith River Scenic Byway 33 miles (53 km) 1 hour
