Trans-Pacific Cruise VacationsTrans-Pacific cruises are far less frequent than Trans-Atlantic cruises. In part this is because the distances involved are much greater, and in part because for most people a Pacific crossing does not have the historical cache that attends an Atlantic Crossing. In 2006, only 5 cruises are categorized as Trans-Pacific cruises, so your options are somewhat limited. That said, the itineraries of a Pacific Cruise are extremely interesting and are all run by high luxury carriers. Cruises generally follow either a northern route or a southern route. The northern route runs between Japan and Alaska with ports of call in Japan, Russia and Alaska. Trips last 13-14 nights and are offered in spring and fall. The southern route runs between Los Angeles and New Zealand or Australia. These cruises take in the South Pacific Islands, Hawaii and ports in New Zealand and Australia. These are longer trips, lasting from 18 to 29 nights, and are offered fall through spring. |
