Trail is 5.3 miles inlength with maximum grades of 30%

Large parking area. Ten Mile Shelter at trailhead. No toilet or water.

Forest to meadows in Buckhorn Wilderness. Views of Big Quilcene River and vistas from Marmot Pass. Trail connects toUpper Dungeness and Tubal Cain Mine Trails.

Camping is available atTen Mile Shelter, Shelter Rock Camp, Camp Mystery and at several areas along the river.Day hiking, horseback riding, viewing scenery and backpacking are a variety of recreationalexperiences. Please use existing campsites whenpossible and camp at least 100 feet from watersources. Treat all water taken from streamsbefore drinking. Pack out what you pack in.

Motorized vehicles and mountains bikes are prohibited. No open campfires allowed above 3,500 feet inside Buckhorn Wilderness.

Basic Directions

The upper Big Quilcene Trail #833.1starts 16 miles from Quilcene on Forest ServiceRoad #2750. The Big Quilcene Trail has twosegments. This is the upper access. Take USHighway 101 south of Quilcene 1.0 mile toPenny Creek Road on the right. Follow PennyCreek Road staying left at the “Y” (mile 1.4) tothe Forest Service boundary and paved ForestService Road #27, continue on FS #27 another7.5 miles to the intersection with Forest ServiceRoad #2750. Drive #2750 for 4.7 miles to UpperBig Quilcene Trailhead.
