Description

The Chattooga River flows through northeast Georgia and into South. This river is part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System meaning it is a beautiful and scenic trip. Along the Chattooga are gorgeous patches of rhododendron and mountain laurel soaking in the sun and beautiful waterfalls. The Chattooga River is also home to a rare white flower called the Oconee Bell which your guides will be happy to point out. You will also be feel safe having your guide near by as the Chattooga is famous from the Hollywood film Deliverance—Don’t worry, you’ll be fine, it’s just a movie.

The river is split up into three segments: segment II, segment III, and segment IV. Segment II has class II rapids including Big Shoals. This segment is great for a scenic relaxing trip. Segment III has class II to III rapids including Painted Rock, Narrows, and Bull Sluice. This segment is known for having snakes among the rocks so be on the look out for them. And Segment IV has class III to IV rapids including Surfing Rapid, Screaming Left Hand Turn, Rock Jumble, and Seven Foot Falls. You can raft any or all of these segments as the river has something for everyone!

The season opens up in mid-April and runs through September. Segment III and IV have age requirements of at least seven and thirteen years of age. Enjoy the summer scenery and fun rapids on one of the south’s most enjoyable rivers for rafting and relaxing.
