Located 5 miles south of Ackerman, Ms., 11 miles northeast of Louisville, Ms, and 30 miles southwest of Starkville, Ms.

Description

A 100 acre lake is the centerpiece of the Choctaw Lake Recreation area. The recreation area features camping, fishing , hiking, picnicking, boating, and swimming.

Choctaw Lake is stocked with bream, crappie, largemouth bass, and catfish. The lake has 2 boat ramps with courtesy docks located at both. Fishing is possible from boat or shore with gravel beds located within rod and reel distance from shoreline. Two boats ramps are located in the Choctaw lake area. One ramp is in the recreation area and the other is across the levee. Choctaw Lake is a NO WAKE LAKE.

The Recreation Area has 35 picnic sites with tables and grills and 2 shelters, one located in the swimming area and the other located in the picnic camping area that can be reserved by calling 662-285-3264.

Choctaw Lake has a swimming area with a beach. The swimming area has a pavilion and a bath-house. The swimming area is handicap accessible. There is no swimming after dark and no swimming out of designated areas. Fee information is located as you enter the recreation area.

Camping Sites - $13.00 Per Night Campsites 13-20 can be reserved by calling toll-free National Recreation Reservation Service at 877-444-6777.
Day Use Parking or Boat Launch - $3.00 (Half Price for Golden Age or Access Passport)

Additional Details:

All waters on National Forest System lands are fishable. Regulations are the same as the state-wide regulations unless posted differently. A state of Mississippi fishing license is required. Non-residents must purchase an out-of-state license.

Basic Directions

From Ackerman, drive 3 miles South on Ms 15 to entrance sign. Turn left onto FS 967 and follow paved road to fee station. From Louisville drive 11 miles north on Ms15 to entrance sign, turn right onto FS 967 and follow paved road to fee station.
