Art and Museums
Museum of Western Art - The museum comprises the nation's most distinguished living artists who follow in the traditions of Remington and Russell in celebrating the memories of the Old West. The rotating collection is sure to delight and surprise. A major western art library is maintained and teaching facilities attract top artists.
Hill Country Museum - Located in the restored Victorian Mansion of pioneer Capt. Charles Schreiner and beautifully furnished with antiques, the museum portrays the affluent life in the Hill Country's early days. (Closed for renovations until April 2010)
Kerr Arts & Cultural Center - Located in the heart of downtown Kerrville, KACC represents more than 600 member artists. Mediums include painting, ceramics, woodworks, jewelry, photography, sculpture and more. Tour the center and the gift shop filled with original works of art. Workshops and demonstrations. Free admission. Tour groups welcome.
Performing Arts
Hill Country Arts Foundation - Enjoy a magical summer's night of theater under the stars at the POINT THEATRE. Its riverbank setting, excellent productions and comfortable seating ensure an evening of fine entertainment. Indoor productions are staged during the year. Classes in music, dance, sculpture, photography and crafts are taught in summer workshops. Various exhibits displayed throughout the year. Hwy. 39 at Johnson Creek in Ingram.
Kerrville Performing Arts Society - Brings featured performers from as near as the San Antonio and as far away as Europe with the finest in chamber music, vocal ensembles, operettas, symphony and dance.
Playhouse 2000 - Providing quality theatrical productions ranging from Shakespeare to Arthur Miller, from musicals to comedy. Innovative productions in a traditional theater setting year-round. Located at the Kathleen C. Cailloux City Center for the Performing Arts, 916 Main Street.
Symphony of the Hills - The symphony is comprised of about 75 players most of which are from the Kerrville area but also include other skilled players from San Antonio, Austin and throughout the region. Performances are held at the Kathleen C. Cailloux City Center for the Performing Arts, 916 Main Street.
Festivals
Kerrville Folk Festival (May - June) - Eighteen great days of musical events, starting the Thursday before Memorial Day at the outdoor theater at Quiet Valley Ranch. Enjoy excellent music on the scenic campgrounds. Food and beverage available. Fees vary according to days attending. Quiet Valley Ranch is located 9 miles south of Kerrville on Hwy. 16.
Kerr County Fair (October) - The annual Kerr County Fair provides the residents of Kerr County and adjacent counties an opportunity to exhibit their finished skills and recognizes their achievements. Among the activities featured are a parade through downtown Kerrville, a carnival, contests, scholarship pageants, 4H & FFA livestock exhibits, food & drink, music, dancing, team roping and the exciting bull and barrel contest. Chili and barbeque cook-offs (CASI & CTBA sanctioned), petting zoo and pony rides. Old-fashioned family fun with something for everyone!
Kerrville Wine & Music Festival (September) - Labor Day Weekend. A four-day condensed version of the internationally famous 18-day Folk Festival. Original songwriters and entertainers from all over the nation perform. Wine tasting, crafts, food services and camping are available.
Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair - Annual fair held over Memorial Day weekend. Three day fair full of arts, crafts, music, food & fun for the entire family, including a children's activity area. Parks and Recreation
Kerrville-Schreiner Park - Located on the Guadalupe River, this 500 acre park offers swimming, fishing and boating. Campsites, picnic tables and rest rooms with showers. Reservations recommended for campsites. Open year-round 8am-10pm for day use. Entrance fee per person $4.00 daily, maximum $10 per vehicle, over 65 discount. Mini-cabins and RV campsites available for additional fees. 2385 Bandera Hwy.
Scott Schreiner Golf Course - An 18 hole course nestled among rolling hills. Pro-shop, electric golf carts, putting greens, showers and lockers. Tee times 7 days in advance. Year round, Tues-Sun, from 7am until dark.
Louise Hays Park - The Guadalupe River flows through the park making a delightful natural pool. Located in the heart of downtown, the park's beautiful grounds and shaded picnic tables make it an ideal spot for a day's outing. A foot bridge crosses the river to Tranquility Island where cypress trees tower over gently sloping grassy banks. Public rest rooms available. Admission is FREE. 7:30am-11pm. Enter from Thompson Drive west of Sidney Baker South.
Ingram Lake and Dam - An ideal place to sail, ski or swim. The setting is terrific, and refreshments are available nearby. Hwy. 39 toward Hunt.
Lost Maples State Natural Area - Nestled in the Hill Country, only 1 ½ hours southwest of Kerrville, the park is a combination of rugged limestone canyons, plateau grasslands, wooded slopes and clear streams. The only maple forest in Texas is located in this 2,174-acre park. 20 picnic sites, 30 campsites with water and electricity, eight designated primitive camping areas accessible to hikers. Rest rooms with showers. Five miles north of Vanderpool on Ranch Road 187.
Attractions
Riverside Nature Center – Urban Wildlife and Native Plant Sanctuary includes over 140 species of native trees, cacti, shrubs and grasses. Educational workshops. Self-guided nature trail leads to the Guadalupe River.
