Description

Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa was founded in 1772 by a Catholic priest: Junípero Serra. The mission is named for Saint Luis, Bishop of Toulouse. The mission is the halfway point in Junípero Serra's chain of five missions and is often called the "Prince of Missions." After repeatedly burning down due to flaming arrows shot by unhappy Native Americans, the roof was finally reconstructed using tiles: the first roof tiles made in California. The church is still active today.
