Description

Route 152—Pacheco Pass Scenic Byway is a route that has been traveled for hundreds of years. First traveled by Native Americans on their way inland form the Pacific, then by missionaries, military forces, and gold miners, the drive is now a route for scenic day trippers.

Route 152—Pacheco Pass Scenic Byway begins west of Los Banos, 56 miles south of Modesto. Start on HWY 152 near the junction with I-5. Follow HWY 152 west past the San Luis Reservoir and a few miles beyond. The byway does not terminate in a town or at any other definite stopping point.

The drive offers a nearly constant view of the San Luis Reservoir and its surrounding hills. A visitor center at the Romero Overlook provides full information on the reservoirs and water projects through audiovisual and printed materials. Telescopes are also available for viewing the area.
