Route 156—Monterey County Scenic Byway travels through what has been called "the salad bowl of the U.S." for the abundance of orchards, farm fields and vineyards in this fertile region.
Route 156—Monterey County Scenic Byway begins 1 mile east of Castroville, 57 miles south of San Jose. The drive follows HWY 156 all the way to Prundale which is the end of the byway.
The time is always ripe to pull over and stop to get a taste for the local life and produce. Find farm stands along the way hawking fresh and often organic treats straight from the source.
