Top Ways to Stay Dry in Lake Havasu, Arizona

Description

You might think that most people come to Lake Havasu, Arizona, to get wet. And you’d be right. But on those days when you just have to have a break from the beach or the boat, you’ll find that there’s also plenty to do on dry land. Keep in mind that from roughly May through September it gets downright hot in these parts, so if you’re considering strenuous outdoor activity that’s best left to the off-season.

One of the best ways to get a feel for the natural side of Lake Havasu is on a guided hike through beauty spots in the Sonoran Desert. If you want to see the wilds but avoid the footwork, consider instead a half-day jeep tour out to some of the more interesting area sights; you can also rent your own OHV and do some independent exploring where OHV use is permitted. Protected riparian habitats to the north and south of Lake Havasu City, like Bill Williams National Wildlife Refuge or Havasu National Wildlife Refuge are good for both a glimpse of native bird species as well as more peace and quiet than you’ll find on OHV trails.

Prefer to stay closer to civilization? Try a Segway Tour of Lake Havasu City, offering close-up views of London Bridge and Rotary Park. For a well-rounded picture of what Lake Havasu, Arizona, is all about, take to the skies in a vintage bi-plane, a hot air balloon, a sea plane or a parasail. Too edgy? Consider instead a round of golf at a local course, an afternoon of shopping, or a driving tour of Lake Havasu’s 1/3 scale replica lighthouses. A little quirky? Yes. But that’s only to be expected in an American city home to the London Bridge.
