Description

Moderate ocean temperature at Emma Wood State Beach makes the area a great place for swimming, surfing and fishing. Catches include perch, bass, cabezon and corbina. A freshwater marsh at the southwest end of the beach attracts raccoons, songbirds and red-tailed hawks. The beach also features the crumbling ruins of a World War II coastal artillery site. There is a grassy area for groups. The beach offers a view of Anacapa Island - and occasional dolphins.

RV and vehicle camping is allowed at the north beach''s 90 campsites. Camping is first come, first served at a cost of $20 per night, plus $8 per night for a second vehicle if it fits in the parking space.

When tides are high, the park closes due to sea water and cobblestones moving into the campsites. Railroad tracks are adjacent to the campground, as is Highway 101, which can be noisy. Dogs are permitted in the campsites on leash; however, they are prohibited on the beach.

Emma Wood Group Camp at Ventura River offers developed tent camping for groups of up to 30 people and primitive RV camping for groups up to 50 people, with a max RV length of 35''. All camping at Ventura River Group Camp requires a reservation year-round. Group camping facilities include restrooms, water spigots (no hook-ups), a lighted parking lot, and fire rings. There is a day use area contained within the park and beach access is available. The park is adjacent to a bike path going both up and down coast.

The beach is two miles west of Ventura. North Beach is reached via Highway 101. The group camp’s entrance is at the west end of Main Street in Ventura.
