The Fallen Leaf Lake Campground is approximately 1/4 mile north of Fallen Leaf Lake. Nestled among towering native pine trees, this campground offers a variety of recreational activities and is very close to the Taylor Creek Visitor Center which offers many interpretive programs and easy access to Lake Tahoe. It is a National Forest campground operated by a private concessionaire, California Land Management.

Rough, paved road to the campground. A passenger car will make it, but please don''t be in a hurry! 17 sites are first-come, first-serve. 6 people and 1 vehicle; please park your vehicles in the designated camping spots only. Additional vehicles will be charged $5 per car.

Fallen Leaf Lake Campground is uniquely situated 1/4 mile away from Fallen Leaf Lake and offers easy hiking around the lake. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is directly across Hwy 89 and has interpretive programs, guided walks on the Rainbow Trail and to the Stream Profile Chamber. The first weekend in October, the annual Kokanee Salmon Festival is held at the Visitor Center.
Also near by are:

  • * Pope and Baldwin Beaches for water recreation,
  • * Tallac Historic Site has tours of its historic buildings and grounds,
  • * Water Craft Rentals or Horseback Riding at Camp Richardson,
  • * Family oriented, paved bike trail runs 3 miles along Hwy 89 and can be used toaccess all of the above,
  • * Access to excellent hiking in Desolation Wilderness via the Glen Alpine or the Mt. Tallac trailheads.

Contact the campground host in case of emergency. Medical, dental, and optical services are available in South Lake Tahoe. Barton Memorial Hospital offers 24-hour emergency care and is fully staffed. Groceries, fuel, laundry and other services are available in South Lake Tahoe.

The campground does not have a boat ramp, but there is a boat ramp at the south end of Fallen Leaf Lake.

Fallen Leaf Lake is not a designated swim beach, but swimming is allowed. Nearby Pope or Baldwin Beaches located on Lake Tahoe are designated swim beaches.

Fallen Leaf is located on the south side of Lake Tahoe, 3 miles north of the "Y" (the intersection of Hwy 50 and Hwy 89) in South Lake Tahoe. The campground entrance can be accessed by turning off Hwy 89 onto Fallen Leaf Lake Road.
