Description
Located at the base of the Sierra foothills, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is home to an 18,000-acre lake with opportunities for hiking, biking, running, camping, picnicking, horseback riding, water-skiing and boating. Fishing offers trout, catfish, big and small mouth bass or perch.
Folsom Lake has three campgrounds -- Beal's Point and Peninsula campgrounds which are located on Folsom Lake and Negro Bar campground at Lake Natoma. Beal's Point and Negro Bar are developed campgrounds; Beal's Point is open year round. Peninsula is a remote campground which can be subject to winter and/or road closures. Campsite reservations are made by reservation only during the on-season. In the off-season campsite availability is first-come, first-served.
Visitors can also see the Folsom Powerhouse, once called "the greatest operative electrical plant on the American continent," which from 1885 to 1952 produced 11,000 volts of electricity for Sacramento residents.
For cyclists, there is a 32-mile long bicycle path that connects Folsom Lake with many Sacramento County parks before reaching Old Sacramento. The park also includes Lake Natoma, downstream from Folsom Lake, which is popular for crew races, sailing, kayaking and other aquatic sports.

Anyone 16 years and older must have a valid California fishing license in their immediate possession while fishing. Only fish and crustaceans (crayfish or crawdads) may be taken from the park. All reptiles (lizards, snakes, etc.) and amphibians (frogs, salamanders, etc.) are protected.
The marina does not sell fishing licenses.
The Marina is located at the south end of the lake and has an earth filled breakwater protecting it from the main part of the lake.
The Snack Bar and Gas dock is located next to the Marina''s main launching ramp.
The main ramp has four lanes and two courtesy docks to assist boaters in the launching and retrieval of their boats.
Our Hobie Cove ramp is a low water ramp that goes into operation when the lake elevation drops to elevation 435''. It also is a four lane paved ramp with two courtey docks.
Picnic tables and Bar-B-Qs are located throughout the Browns Ravine area.
Fires are only allowed in the designated fire areas.
Swimming and sun bathing in the Hobie Cove area of Browns Ravine is a popular sport. It should be noted that there no life guards on duty at Browns Ravine.

Basic Directions
Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is located in the Sierra-Nevada foothills about 25 miles east of Sacramento and can be reached via either Highway 50 or I-80. Both Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma have many access points and entrances, most of which are fairly easily accessed by either Interstate 80 to Douglas Blvd.(east), Highway 50 to Hazel Ave., or Folsom Blvd. (north).
