Description

Hume Lake is formed by a dam on Tenmile Creek. The dam was constructed in 1908 for the Hume-Bennett Lumber Company and was the world’s first reinforced concrete, multiple arch dam. The impounded water served as a log-holding pond and as the water supply for an extension of the flume, which carried lumber to the company’s lumberyard in Sanger (73 miles). Operations at the mill stopped in 1917 and the Forest Service acquired the dam, the 87-acre lake, and surrounding land in 1935. Today the lake is a popular recreation destination.

Campgrounds are located at Princess, Hume Lake, Aspen Hollow (Group), Logger Flat (Group), Landslide, and Tenmile.
