Description

The Mendocino National Forest features a collection of fantastic mountain bike trails for riders of intermediate skill level and above.

The South End Loop is one of the most popular routes in the Mendocino National Forest. South End Loop incorporates portions of Trough Spring Ridge and the Letts Lake trails. The trails climb on old fire roadways through a mix of oak and pine forest, gaining 4000 vertical feet with an climax of 5500 feet above sea level.

A map is helpful when riding in the Mendocino National Forest. Trail maps may be picked up at Forest Service stations around the area.

The Mendocino National Forest is multi-use and riders should understand and practice appropriate right of way protocol. Riders should also carry a first aid kit, bike repair kit and extra water and food. This is a very remote area. Riders will find a map of the area a necessary piece of equipment. Maps can be acquired from Forest Service stations in the area.

Basic Directions

From I-5 North take the Maxwell Exit. Head west on Sites Road 9 miles to a fork. Go right at the fork onto Ladoga Road and travel 15 miles to Ladoga. Turn right in town and go over bridge to continue on Ladoga Road. This becomes Stonyford Road. Take Stonyford Road 8 miles to the stop sign in Stonyford. Take a Left and travel two blocks to Fouts Spring Road / M 10. Take a left on Fouts Spring Road / M 10 and travel 9 miles to Davis Flats/Fouts Springs Staging area. Park and ride from here.
