Description

From Interstate 15, take Clinton Keith Road south to Tenaja Road. Follow Tenaja Road southwest to Cleveland National Forest road (FS road 7S01, watch carefully for this turnoff). Turn right and follow this road about 1 mile (1.6 km) to the Tenaja Trailhead. Follow the road another 4 miles (6.4 km) to the San Mateo Canyon/Tenaja Falls Trailhead which is adjacent to the San Mateo Canyon Wilderness boundary.

Trailhead shared with Tenaja Falls Trail. Short 2-mile downhill hike above and along San Mateo Creek brings you to Fisherman's Camp (San Mateo Canyon Trail, Tenaja Trail, and Tenaja Falls Trail)...great for a shuttle trip. San Mateo Canyon continues another 9.3 miles beyond the junction and you will find grassy stretches, cool creekside oak and sycamore woodlands, and broad open areas. This trail provides some of the finest day and overnight hiking trips in the wilderness...best times of the year are fall, winter and spring.
