Description
Take a tour of Shasta Dam and learn more about the history and purpose of the second largest and tallest concrete dam in the United States. You'll also get to visit the powerhouse, the state's largest hydroelectric generating station.
On your way to visit the dam, you may want to stop at the overlook on Scenic Route 151 for photos of the "Three Shastas" - Shasta Lake, Mount Shasta, and Shasta Dam - because cameras are not allowed on the dam tour.
Completed in 1945, the Shasta Dam symbolizes this community's strength and heritage. Each year, the community celebrates with Shasta Damboree, usually in May, and other community events honoring those who built and maintain the dam.

Tour Information
- Winter tours begin promptly at 9am, 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. Available Wednesday through Sunday. Closed major holidays.
- Summer tours begin promptly at 9am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 1pm, 2:15pm, and 3:30pm. Available every day.
- Plan on one hour for the tour.
- Cell phones, pagers, cameras, bags of any kind, and weapons of any kind (including pocketknives) are prohibited.
Visitor Center is open from 8am to 4:30pm, seven days a week, and open until 5 during the summer months. Picnic areas available.

From Interstate 5 (I-5) take Exit 685, "Shasta Dam Blvd" and drive west about 6 miles on Shasta Dam Boulevard (also called "Highway 151").
