Description

From resort towns to recreation areas, historic sights to staggering views, the Sierra Heritage Scenic Byway offers a fine introduction to the Sierra Nevada.

The Sierra Heritage Scenic Byway begins in the town of Clovis, a suburb of Fresno, home to a clutch of antique shops. Continue your journey on Highway 168 to the border of the Sierra National Forest. Explore Shaver Lake and the surrounding area on foot, horseback, bike, skies or boat, as appropriate, before heading farther east to Huntington Lake, where boating, fishing, camping, skiing, and snowboarding are popular seasonal pasttimes. This area nestled in the Sierras is counts amongst its assets beautiful alpine views and abundant wildlife.

The route ends at Kaiser Pass. Here you will find trails that enter into the Kaiser Wilderness or, if you have a high-clearance vehicle, you can take a short drive up to White Bark Vista for a wonderful view of the crest of the Sierra Nevada Moutain Range. From here, end your journey by checking out the region's famed hiking trails and rock climbing locations.
