Description

Within the Sequoia National Forest and Monument, the Tule River is located within California Department of Fish and Game’s Sierra District. Fishing within this portion of the Sierra district is open to fishing year-round. The daily bag limit is 5 fish per day and the possession limit is 10. Note: The stream segment of the North Fork of the Tule River above the confluence with Pine Creek and all tributaries above this point, requires artificial flies with barbless hooks and is open year around. Check fishing regulations at the California Department of Fish and Game website.

Campgrounds are located at Camp Wishon (10 miles beyond Springville), Coy Flat (near Camp Nelson), Belknap (Near Camp Nelson), and Quaking Aspen (6 miles Beyond Camp Nelson).

Basic Directions

The Tule River is accessed via State Highway 190 traveling east from Porterville. Springville is located approximately 18 miles from Porterville. Upper Coffee Camp is located about 5 miles above Springville. State Highway 190 continues to follow the South Fork of the Middle Fork of the Tule River through Camp Nelson (13 miles beyond Springville) to Quaking Aspen (6 miles beyond Camp Nelson). County Route 208 provides access to Camp Wishon and forks from State Highway 190 7-1/2 miles beyond Springville. The North Fork of the Tule River is accessed by following Balch Park Road (County Route J37), which enters State Highway 190 about 1-1/2 miles beyond Springville. The Tule River is generally located within a canyon, thus access to the river can be difficult. Anglers are advised to use caution.
