Route 140—Mariposa County Scenic Byway travels through a world of natural beauty, laced with mariposa wildflowers, waterfalls, and giant granite domes. This type of scenery is found nowhere else on earth to the same degree as it is here, in and around Yosemite National Park. Route 140—Mariposa County Scenic Byway begins near Mariposa on HWY 140. Follow HWY 140 northeast past El Portal, to Yosemite Village and the end of the byway. The region along this drive is known world-wide for its recreational opportunities. Miles and miles of hiking and biking trails lay in wait as do literally countless waterfalls, some of which have still yet to be found. An interesting cultural stop at the beginning of the trip could be at the mineral museum in the town of Mariposa. The museum is full of rare gems, paleontology exhibits, and gold stampings.
