The geological uniqueness of the park itself is its primary attraction, although the park headquarters and Loomis Museum are important not only as "home bases" for hiking, but as interpretive centers. It's one thing to see Lassen Peak in the near distance and quite another to know when it erupted and how. Near the park is Mount Shasta, another famous volcanic peak, and a state park centered around the Sacramento River.
