Butte Creek is a classic trout stream that offers both meadow and freestone types of stream reaches. There is public access along more than twelve miles of the creek via gravel roads, and good fishing opportunities for the whole family.

Shafter Campground is approximately six miles south of Mt Hebron, CA on the old state highway (a gravel road). This campground is adjacent to Butte Creek and has 10 campsites. It is open and accessible year round and provides good fishing opportunities for the whole family during the fishing season. The campground map or fishing map may be helpful in locating more information on specific areas.

Additional Details:

A valid California state fishing license is needed to fish within the National Forest. Licenses are sold at sporting good and other retail stores. For information on fishing times & limits a current state fishing regulation guide is generally available free at these same locations. Basic Directions

Butte Creek is accessed east of Highway 97 approximately 10 miles south of the town of Macdoel, CA. The creek is accessed along this old state highway.
