The Sierra Nevadas are home to two of California's more spectacular National Parks - Yosemite and Sequoia/King's Canyon. And it's close to many others. These peaks overshadow the Mojave Desert to some extent, Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Parks not far from their eastern slopes. Lake Tahoe and the Mammoth Lakes lie within the range, as do no end of parks. Touches of history, such as the Manzanar National Historic Site, which preserves a Japanese-American internment camp, and the Watson Cabin Living Museum, which serves as illustration for how life in the Sierras used to be, are scattered throughout this massive range.
