at 6,300 feet in elevation, the trail head is at the end of the road past Lakes Basin Campground. The trail begins on the west side of the Bear Lake Loop and travels .2 miles to Silver Lake. It climbs 1.6 miles past Mud Lake trail junction and Hellgrammite Lakes to the PCT.
