Basic Directions
Off Highway 199 in Gasquet, Calfornia take County Road 314 (Old Toll Road) to forest road 18N10 and continue for approximately 1.5 miles to terminus and trailhead. The other end of the trail is off county road 315 (Holiday Road), and is accessed off Highway 199 at Patrick Creek approximately 8 miles east of Gasquet.
Description
Originally a pack train trail between Crescent City, CA and the gold mines of the Illinois Valley in Oregon, this scenic trail presents panoramic views of high mountain peaks, the Pacific Ocean, and the North and Middle Forks of the Smith River. The first half-mile from the lower trailhead was burned over in the Panther Fire of 1996. The upper part of the trail was burned over in the Biscuit Fire of 2002.
