Modesto - Whitewater Rafting

Want an excellent intermediate run with all the mountain-forest glory of the Sierras? Raft the East Fork of the Carson River. Want either a green and leisurely run or fierce, all-but-boiling rapids? Raft the Merced. Want a challenging run bordered by cliff walls or sequoias? Try the Stanislaus. Want to chance the toughest whitewater in California? The Tuolumne is for you. Some of these runs are best seasonally, but happily they're all within easy stomping distance of Modesto.

East Fork Carson River - Cave Rock to Diversion Dam Up to Class III
2-3 Days

Merced River Up to Class IV
2-3 days
The Merced River is a river of contrasts. Gentle through Yosemite and rough through the fierce canyons farther south, there's something in the river for beginners and daredevils both, as well as the rafter who likes a little relaxation between intense whitewater hits.

Merced River - Briceburg to Bagby Up to Class IV
1-2 Days
Best run in mid-spring, the Merced River between Briceburg and Bagby is known for its large, rolling waves and boiling hydraulic. Numerous class IV rapids dot this stretch of water as the river winds through a grassy canyon, studded with oak and pine trees.

Merced River - Interior Yosemite Class I
1 day

Merced River - Red Bud to Briceburg Up to Class IV
1-2 Days
The section of the Merced River from Red Bud to Briceburg isn't as consistently hard as the lower section, but the water still whips into the air, churned high and fierce by river currents.

Stanislaus River - Goodwin Canyon Up to Class IV
1 day

Stanislaus River - North Fork of the Stanislaus Up to Class V
1 day

Tuolumne River - Cherry Creek Up to Class V
1 day

Tuolumne River - Main Up to Class V
2-3 Days
