Fishing near Sacramento, California often means a trip to the forests and mountains situated to the east, although you can catch Steelhead trout and salmon easily in the lower Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. Commonly caught in lakes at elevation are Rainbow trout, mackinaw, Brook trout and Cutthroat trout. You may also try your hand reeling something in from the many rivers which run through the region, including the lower reaches of the American River (known for its Steelhead) and  the Sacramento River, which winds right through town en route to the Pacific.
